Found Footage Has a New Home

Found footage fans will soon have a new site to binge their favorite subgenre of horror! Creators Monica and Louie La Vella (creators of the movie Invited which came out this year) will be launching FOUND in October this year, just in time for Halloween.

What is Found Footage?

Found Footage is a subgenre of horror done to look like the characters in the story were recording or filming the movie itself and that the footage was later “found” by another character and presented to the audience. This gives the feeling of realism to the stories. The most famous found footage movie being The Blair Witch Project (1999).

FOUNDtv

The FOUND platform is an unlimited streaming service that viewers can enjoy free with ads or go ad-free for a monthly fee. It will include all the sub-subgenres such as mockumentaries, analog horror, screenlife, surveillance, and even hybrids (that is movies that combine found footage with traditional narrative stories).

Some of the movies you will find on FOUND include VIY: The Lost Tapes, Last Radio Call, and The Goetia Diaries. You can also watch series like Midnight Feature. Have a movie in mind but can’t find it on their list? FOUND encourages you to make requests by contacting support!

You can watch these movies anywhere including your browser, as well as Apple TV, iOS, Google Devices, ROKU, Fire TV, and LG and Samsung Smart TVs. Find more information about FOUND and access on their FAQ page.

If you are a film maker with a found footage movie in the works or ready to release, FOUND is happy to receive your pitch. They make the submission process really easy through their Submissions link.

“Being filmmakers ourselves, we know the ins and outs of filmmaking and want to be able to support fellow filmmakers and all our dedicated fans with one platform that’s truly involved in the genre.” — Monica La Vella

This makes me, a viewer, extremely happy because I love finding indie horror movies to watch. In the last year, a few of my favorite horror movies have been indie films, especially the found footage movie Life of Belle which rocked my world.

Beyond Digital

On top of all this amazing news for horror fans, there is the additional delicious crumb that Louie La Vella dropped in his interview with Rue Morgue. FOUND doesn’t want to stop with digital offerings but plans to expand to independent theaters!

“As the FOUND brand grows, we will be partnering with independent cinemas to bring found-footage classics and new releases to a curated monthly event on the big screen.”

For fans who believe that theater is the best way to view movies (not me as my readers know) this should be very exciting news. I personally love this for the filmmakers themselves. Found footage and indie film rarely makes it to the big screen so this opportunity could really expand the genre.
