LIVED ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?
With the disappearance of hack horror writer Sutter Cane, all Hell is breaking loose…literally! Author Cane, it seems, has a knack for description that really brings his evil creepy-crawlies to life. Insurance investigator John Trent is sent to investigate Cane’s mysterious vanishing act and ends up in the sleepy little East Coast town of Hobb’s End.
Great story. I am a huge fan of the movie/book/song that makes terrible things happen trope. This lovecraftian tale is a fun romp. Sam Neill did a great job carrying the movie. There were moments that were a little too tongue in cheek for me (specifically when Styles faces the kids and Mommy’s Day – it wasn’t needed and took me out of the vibe). Its hard to show “unspeakable” and “unfathomable” horrors of course because its making them fathomable and therefore not nearly as horrifying as they should be. I think this did a pretty good job anyways. All around a good movie.
