I hadn’t heard of The Night House until recently when I saw it in the horror movie listing on HBOMax app. Admittedly, the cover being gorgeous is what pulled me in. I watched the trailer, looking up some reviews, saw they were good, and decided to give it a watch.

4 1/2 Stars
An excellent slow burn psychological horror.
Its a quiet movie with a lot going on under the skin of the main character that is easily missed if you’re not watching closely.
A look at grief, suicide, depression, and love through the lens of horror that I don’t think every horror fan is gonna “get” but is certainly worth the watch.
Rebecca Hall gives a masterful performance.
Despite loving it, and understanding why its so quiet and understated even to the end, there were moments that I wished the twists were harder, harsher, and more supernatural. Instead what we are left with is questioning what is real and what is in the mind of Beth? Perspective, however, is a huge theme in the movie both blatantly and subtlely.
